LICHT galleryでは、韓国を拠点に活動する作家Subin Baeの企画展「Wood Welding」を開催いたします。

Subin Baeは、木や金属など異なる素材の性質や加工方法に着目し、その関係性から新たな表現を探求しています。本展では、金属に残る溶接の痕跡を「火」によって木材へと置き換えた「Wood Welding」シリーズを展示いたします。

溶接と焼成に共通するのは、熱によって素材が変化すること。木の接合部に沿って炎を当てることで生まれる焼き跡は、金属の溶接跡を思わせながら、木目や密度、炎の角度や速度によって一つひとつ異なる表情を残します。さらに表面をレジンで覆い、幾度も研磨することで、木でありながら磁器のようにも映り、私たちが何気なく捉えている素材への認識を揺さぶります。

シリーズの起点となるのは、最小単位である一つの箱。その単純な形から、さまざまな大きさや組み合わせへと展開していきます。この機会にぜひご高覧ください。

Subin Bae (b. 2002)
Subin Baeは、韓国を拠点に活動する作家。2024年に桂園芸術大学を卒業。作品はすべて彼女自身で制作し、素材の可能性を探求しながら、コレクタブルデザインとアートの領域を横断している。2024年にはアメリカ・サンフランシスコのSVRN、2025年には韓国・釜山のBAMA、2026年にはデンマークの3 days of designにて《Wood Welding Series》を発表するなど、国内外へ活動の場を広げている。

LICHT gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by South Korea–based artist Subin Bae.

In the Wood Welding series, traces of metal welding are translated into wood through the use of fire. Both welding and burning are grounded in the same principle—the transformation of material through heat. By transferring this process from metal to wood, the work blurs the boundaries between different materials while revealing the subtle tensions that exist between them. Yet the work extends beyond this simple substitution.

The natural texture of the wood is concealed beneath layers of resin, creating an ambiguous materiality that shifts with light and perspective, at times resembling ceramic or metal. The material becomes difficult to identify at first glance, quietly challenging our unconscious assumptions about what wood is and how materials are perceived.

The series is developed from the cube as its fundamental unit. While each work exists as an independent object, repetition and combination generate new relationships between the pieces. As these relationships expand, the work moves from the individual to the collective, opening itself to each viewer's own interpretation.

Subin Bae (b. 2002)
Subin Bae is an artist based in South Korea. After graduating from Kaywon University of Art & Design in 2024, she has developed her own experimental process, exploring the possibilities of a wide range of materials across the fields of collectible design and art. In 2024, she presented the Wood Welding series at SVRN in San Francisco; in 2025 at BAMA in Busan; and in 2026 at 3 days of design in Denmark, steadily expanding her practice both in Korea and internationally.
